"Helping Your Teen And Child Stay Safe Online: Tips For Protecting Youth from Online Predators in Games and Social Platforms"

Helping Your Teen And Child Stay Safe Online

“Not in trouble, and not alone.”

As the global problem of online safety and unwanted interactions grow, it is essential to equip youth with the tools to recognise and respond to the risks of interacting with strangers who pretend to be someone else in virtual spaces.

A recent press release by the FBI states: “We want parents and caregivers to be aware that predatory adults often pose as children online and attempt to engage children through popular social media and gaming platforms,” said Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of the FBI’s Miami Field office. “If your child is targeted, tell them they are not in trouble and they are not alone. Block the predator, do not delete the profile or messages and contact law enforcement.”

In 2023, the UK NSPCC reported an “82% rise in online grooming crimes against children in the last 5 years.”

This is a topic that can’t be ignored. This is why we put together these materials—to help foster connection and awareness with your teen or child's online activity. By offering practical tools and guidance, we aim to empower them to understand their worth, make informed decisions, and stay safe in an increasingly complex digital world. Through these resources, we encourage open dialogue between caregivers and their children, ensuring that they feel supported, aware, and equipped to navigate online spaces confidently and safely.
